NWLSD Is Hosting Our Annual Back To School Fair
Health and Safety Fair Wednesday, August 11, 2021 9am - Noon

Northwest Local School District (NWLSD) is partnering with Northgate Mall to host our 11th Annual Back-to-School Health and Safety Fair for all Preschool through 12th grade students at Northgate Mall on Wednesday, August 11, from 9 a.m. until Noon. The Health and Safety Fair was created as an opportunity for the district to connect families with outside community services, free school supplies, free haircuts, hygiene kits, as well as a variety of health screenings. Last year, the Health and Safety Fair served over 700 students within the community.
“This year, NWLSD is working in collaboration with BLOC Side-By-Side to bring community partners, local churches and organizations to the event,” said Lyndsey Creecy, NWLSD Public Relations Coordinator. “Our district has approximately 9,000 students, many of whom do not have access to school supplies or services like haircuts prior to the start of school. This event not only gives them access to free services, it connects families to the community resources and supports that exist within our area.”

This year, a number of community organizations have signed up to provide lunch, activities and games for students and families. Student haircuts and health screenings will be performed by Empire Beauty School and The Healthcare Connection.  The Colerain Police Department has volunteered to host cornhole games in order to strengthen its relationship with students; the YWCA and the YMCA will be hosting a community restorative circle to teach families coping skills; the Freestore Foodbank and the Mt. Healthy Food Alliance, will be providing meal kits filled with non-perishable-food items for families in need; and local businesses will be on site offering on-the-spot interviews for parents and high school students. Participants can also expect to see performances from Colerain and Northwest High School cheerleaders and marching bands, demonstrations on bus safety from the NWLSD transportation department, vendor tables where they can learn about various community services and supports, as well as have access to door prizes and raffle giveaways.

“We are so thankful for all of our community organizations that have signed up,” said Creecy. “These are the types of events that truly help close the gap between our students and the services that are available throughout our community. It not only brings awareness to families about the supports that are available, it also helps our community to better understand our students’ and our families’ needs. We understand that events like this would not be possible without the support of our community. Their donations and their willingness to volunteer are much appreciated.”

At this time, NWLSD is still in need of school supplies, specifically glue sticks and folders and items for student raffles like themed gift baskets, bikes, safety gear, etc. Donations must be dropped off at Northgate Mall. To coordinate a time to drop off items, please contact Gabbie Isadore, Property Manager at Northgate, [email protected]
