11/8/23

NWLSD Staff and Families,

As many of you are aware, Northwest Local Schools, along with four other school districts across the United States, faced an alarming swatting attempt on one of our schools. The incident resulted in Colerain High School being placed in a full lockdown.

While the report turned out to be a false alarm, the safety and well-being of our students and staff remained our top priority throughout it all. Our staff members responded swiftly and professionally, following our established safety protocols with precision. Our students demonstrated exceptional maturity and cooperation during the lockdown and the Colerain Township Police were on the scene quickly and were able to ensure that our students and staff were safe.

We understand the distress and concern such situations can cause for parents and guardians, and we want to emphasize that the district will always take such threats seriously. It is important to note that the incident turned out to be a swatting attempt, and no staff or students were ever in danger.

We want to express our appreciation for the understanding and support you provided during the incident. We understand that incidents like these can be frightening, and your cooperation was instrumental in maintaining a calm and safe environment for our students. We also take this opportunity to remind parents and guardians to keep emergency contact information up to date, as it is crucial for effective communication in such situations. You can do so by contacting your child’s school. Additionally, if you opted out of receiving texts at any time, you can opt back in by texting the word "Yes" to 87569.

We would like to thank our staff members, students, and law enforcement for their exceptional response and professionalism during this incident. Colerain Police’s dedication to the safety of our educational community is commendable.

As a school district, we remain resolute in our commitment to providing a safe and nurturing environment for our students. We appreciate your trust in us and will continue to work diligently to ensure the well-being of all members of our educational community.
